The Millennium Fellowship is a prestigious semester-long leadership development programme co-presented by the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) and the Millennium Campus Network (MCN). It brings together exceptional undergraduate students from universities worldwide to develop and implement social impact projects aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
What You Get
Millennium Fellows receive access to a structured leadership curriculum, peer workshops, mentorship from global professionals, and a platform to develop a real-world social impact project on their campus or community. Fellows who complete the programme receive a UN Academic Impact and Millennium Campus Network co-certification. Top projects gain access to regional and global showcases, funding opportunities, and the broader Millennium network of over 10,000 alumni.
Programme Structure
The fellowship runs over eight weeks during a standard academic semester. Fellows work in cohorts of 10–20 students per campus, guided by a Campus Director (usually a faculty member or university administrator). Each fellow develops a "Millennium Project" — a concrete initiative addressing a SDG challenge in their community, ranging from food security and clean energy to gender equality and quality education.
Eligibility
The Millennium Fellowship is open to undergraduate students enrolled at an accredited university worldwide. You must be nominated by your university's Campus Director — meaning your university must have an active partnership with MCN. If your university is not yet a partner, you or a faculty member can apply to become a Campus Director to open the fellowship to your campus.
Application Process
Applications are submitted through the Millennium Campus Network website at millenniumcampus.org. The campus-level application process involves submitting a personal statement explaining your SDG focus area, your proposed Millennium Project concept, and a letter of support. Applications for the 2026 cohort were open until April 30, 2026 — check the MCN website for any extended deadlines or the 2027 cycle opening.
Why Apply
The Millennium Fellowship is uniquely action-oriented. Unlike many fellowships that focus purely on learning, it requires you to build something — a real project, a real team, real impact. The UN co-certification adds credibility to your CV, and the peer network of globally-minded student leaders is invaluable for anyone pursuing careers in international development, social enterprise, or public policy.
