Overview

The DC Trainee Programme provides a comprehensive introduction to many different aspects of German and multilateral development cooperation (DC).

  • The programme starts with a one-month onboarding phase in Germany.
  • This is followed by a foreign assignment ranging between 1 and 11 months.
  • Participants then spend eight months working on a technical cooperation project in one of the partner countries.
  • A further three months are spent in a partner country or at the head office of another German or international DC organisation.
  • The programme ends with a five-month assignment with the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in Bonn or Berlin.

Eligibility

The programme is aimed at young professionals with a completed Master's degree or comparable academic qualification. There is no age limit, and the programme is open to applicants of all nationalities.

  • Fluent to business fluent written and spoken German and English are required.
  • Some experience in international cooperation, e.g. as part of an internship, is also required.
  • Experience in a developing country and specialised knowledge of international development cooperation would be an advantage.
