Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters (EMJM) are prestigious, integrated master's programmes jointly delivered by international university consortia. Funded by the European Union through the Erasmus+ programme, they allow students worldwide to study at two or more European universities within a single degree programme — gaining an internationally recognised joint, double, or multiple degree and deep cross-cultural experience.
What You Get
Scholarship holders receive a monthly allowance of €1,000 for partner country students and €1,400 for programme country students (EU citizens), a travel and installation allowance paid at the start of the programme, and full tuition fee coverage paid directly to the universities. The scholarship is highly competitive but generous — it is designed to cover all living and study costs during the programme.
Programme Variety
Over 200 EMJM programmes run annually across virtually every discipline — from environmental science and public health to creative writing, data science, law, engineering, and agriculture. Each programme involves study at a minimum of two European countries, and many include partnerships with universities in Africa, Asia, and the Americas. The specific combination of countries, campuses, and curriculum differs by programme.
Eligibility
Erasmus Mundus scholarships are open to students from any country worldwide. You must apply to a specific EMJM programme (not to Erasmus Mundus generally) and meet that programme's academic entry requirements, which typically include a bachelor's degree in a relevant field. Language requirements vary — most programmes teach in English, though some include French, Spanish, or German modules.
Application Deadlines
Most EMJM programmes accept applications between October and January for studies starting the following September. Deadlines vary by programme — some close as early as November, others as late as February or March. Apply early; scholarship seats are limited and are awarded on a competitive basis separate from (but alongside) programme admission.
How to Apply
Apply directly to the EMJM consortium of your chosen programme — not through a central Erasmus portal. Find all programmes and their application portals at eacea.ec.europa.eu or via the Erasmus+ Programme Guide. Choose your programme carefully based on academic fit, partner universities, and the countries you'll study in. A strong motivation letter explaining why this specific programme fits your career goals is the most important part of your application.
