CGP Opportunity & Innovation Grants 2026 — Up to €4,500 for Western Balkans CSOs

The Common Ground Program (CGP) Opportunity & Innovation Grants give civil society organizations in the Western Balkans up to €4,500 to act quickly on a concrete opportunity or test a new idea for building peace and trust in their communities. Twenty grants are available in 2026 on a rolling basis — decisions come within five working days of submission, making this one of the fastest-turnaround grants in the region.

This is a grant for organizations that want to move quickly on something meaningful: a dialogue pilot, a response to a local political development, or an innovative approach to bridging a community divide.

What the Grant Is For

These grants are designed for focused, high-potential interventions — not large-scale projects. EFB specifically funds:

• Preparing applications for larger funding opportunities
• Pilot projects or feasibility studies for new dialogue methods
• Reactive actions in response to political developments affecting a local community
• Proactive initiatives in anticipation of upcoming challenges

Applicants define the local community they want to work in and the type of divide they aim to address — whether national, ethnic, racial, religious, gender-based, or related to sexual orientation.

Who Can Apply

• Civil society organizations registered in Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, or Serbia
• Working on peace, dialogue, and social cohesion in a local WB context
• Informal or unregistered collectives and ad hoc groups may apply in coalition with a registered organization or through a fiscal host (a signed MOU on roles and fund use is required)

Grant Details

• Maximum grant: €4,500 per application
• Total grants in 2026: 20, reviewed on a rolling basis until exhausted or November 1
• Eligible costs: All cost types are admissible — each budget line must be directly tied to the opportunity or innovation, not routine organizational work
• Decisions communicated: Within five working days of submission
• Activity implementation deadline: November 1, 2026
• Final reporting deadline: December 1, 2026

Selection Criteria

• Strategic & Values Fit (30%) — small/medium local organizations bridging divides or addressing topics that build trust between communities
• Opportunity or Innovation Argumentation (30%) — a clear rationale explaining the context, proposed intervention, activity plan, and why this is a promising or innovative approach
• Estimated Impact (25%) — evaluators' assessment of how likely the intervention is to produce the described social results
• Feasibility & Proportionality (15%) — budget lines directly tied to the opportunity or innovation being funded

• Valid registration documentation of the applicant or fiscal host
• Statute of the applicant or fiscal host
• List of staff members and their roles
• For coalitions or fiscal host arrangements: signed Memorandum of Understanding between parties

How to Apply

Apply through the online form on the EFB website. Because grants are reviewed as they arrive and only 20 slots are available, earlier submissions have a better chance of securing funding. The grants may run out before November 1 — don't wait until the last moment.
